چکیده

In this work we extend previous results on moment-based characterization and minimal representation of stationary Markovian arrival processes (MAPs) and rational arrival processes (RAPs) to transient Markovian arrival processes (TMAPs) and Markovian binary trees (MBTs). We show that the number of moments that characterize a TMAP of size n with full rank marginal is n2+2n−1, and an MBT of size n with full rank marginal is n3+2n−1. We provide a non-Markovian representation for both processes based on these moments. Next, we discuss the minimal representation of TMAPs and MBTs. In both cases, the minimal representation, which is not necessarily Markovian, can be found using different adaptations of the STAIRCASE algorithm presented in an earlier work. Finally, we heuristically investigate possible Markovian canonical representations for TMAPs and MBTs of order 2.

Dynamics and Topographic Organization of Recursive Self-Organizing Maps

Recently there has been an outburst of interest in extending topographic maps of vectorial data to more general data structures, such as sequences or trees. However, there is no general consensus as to how best to process sequences using topographic maps, and this topic remains an active focus of neurocomputational research. The representational capabilities and internal representations of the ...

Fitting Markovian binary trees using global and individual demographic data

We consider a class of branching processes called Markovian binary trees, in which the individuals lifetime and reproduction epochs are modeled using a transient Markovian arrival process (TMAP). We estimate the parameters of the TMAP based on population data containing information on age-specific fertility and mortality rates. Depending on the degree of detail of the available data, a weighted...

A New Heuristic Algorithm for Drawing Binary Trees within Arbitrary Polygons Based on Center of Gravity

Graphs have enormous usage in software engineering, network and electrical engineering. In fact graphs drawing is a geometrically representation of information. Among graphs, trees are concentrated because of their ability in hierarchical extension as well as processing VLSI circuit. Many algorithms have been proposed for drawing binary trees within polygons. However these algorithms generate b...

Binary Time Series Generated by Chaotic Logistic Maps

This paper examines stochastic pairwise dependence structures in binary time series obtained from discretised versions of standard chaotic logistic maps. It is motivated by applications in communications modelling which make use of so-called chaotic binary sequences. The strength of non-linear stochastic dependence of the binary sequences is explored. In contrast to the original chaotic sequenc...
